Echolocation
Happy Saturday folks!
I'm going to immediately preface this by saying that this project is definitely not going to be completed this weekend. I'm moooostly going to be taking this weekend 'off' from making games, as I've been going at it pretty hard the last month, & I need a break!
That said, I still wanted to update you on the next plan.
The idea is still very much in its infancy, but I want to create a game about exploring a pitch black cave system using echolocation. The tone will lean definitively towards horror, as there will definitely be something hunting you at some point 😊
In order to this though, I believe I'm going to need to look into making a custom shader for the walls that will allow a sort of 'ripple and fade' effect to take place, revealing the topography of the room for a second or two, in that instance, before fading. In a static setting, this would likely be relatively simple, but I want there to be things that move around, & as they do, you only get the echo for their location at the time the echo passed them.
So, to this end I'm going to start off doing some research this weekend, maybe attempt a prototype if I'm feeling up to it - though I'm going to try to keep work out of my mind - & if I gain enough momentum I might work on it throughout the week. The intention is to get something out to you all by the end of next Sunday though - so watch this space!
In the meantime, please do check out the other two games I've made so far:
Thanks for reading!
